The trail takes you through different types of vegetation and a variety of trees. At some points the view is breathtaking at a height of 5900 feet/1800 m. On a clear day you can see the Caribbean Sea , the lake of Nicaragua and the Pacific ocean. Located at the top is the lagoon "Goldfinch". Along the way, we are able to see animals such as wild pigs (wild boar), large rodents such as freckles and agoutis, spider monkeys, howler monkeys, and a variety of snakes and insects unique to this area. This trail is the longest and consists of 5 miles / 8 KM, and can only be done if it starts early in the morning and with good weather conditions.

Rincon de la Vieja
National Park Palo Verde

In the foothills of the Tenorio Volcano hides a wonder of nature: Rio Celeste. Its waters are not clear, but they have an intense turquoise color. Legend has it that the river received its incredible color when God clean their brushes into these waters after painting the sky. The scientific explanation is that the coloring is caused by a chemical reaction only volcanic minerals. Rio Celeste is one of the most beautiful rivers and picturesque of Costa Rica. The park is home to an incredible biodiversity of flora and fauna, including the tapir, bobcat, monkeys, toucans and a great diversity of amphibians and reptiles. In this tour you will experience one of the best short walks in Costa Rica. The trace of the circuit for about 4 miles (5 km) will take us through primary and secondary forests, mid-elevation to all places of interest such as "The Tenideros", where the river acquires its color. From now on, the river carries its color for a distance of 22 miles (36 km). Along the shores, the river has a series of natural hot springs where you can take a relaxing bath and healthy. Other attractions are the blue lagoon, a quiet pool depth, shades of sky blue color, the plumes of volcanic gases, where temperatures up to 1500 °F (800° C) are expelled from time to time, and the "gushed", where the exhaust gas at the base of the river give the appearance of boiling water. Before arriving at the final event of the tour you will find a lookout point where you can appreciate the 6286 feet (1916 m) of the Tenorio Volcano on clear days. Finally we will visit the impressive waterfall of the Rio Celeste. The water falls to nearly 100 feet (30 m) in a picturesque turquoise pool, this is perhaps the most beautiful of Costa Rica.

 

Duration: 3 or 4 hours walk. Recommendation: comfortable shoes for walking, camera, insect repellent, layers, bathing suit.

To ascend the tourist will feel the change from the hot plains of Bagaces fresh to the summits of the volcano.
